Meet Chef Kev

Alegre Farm is pleased to introduce the newest member of our food service and catering department, Chef Kevin Murphree.  Known casually as Chef Kev, he brings 25 years of restaurant, food and beverage experience as well as event planning.  As a young child in the 80’s Chef Kev spent many Saturday mornings choosing to watch cooking shows over cartoons. From Julia Childs and Justin Wilson, to Martin Yan and Graham Kerr, these influences have lasted throughout his life as his love for cooking and entertaining remains.  Today you will catch him keeping stats on famous chefs the way some people keep track of professional athletes as he shares the importance of healthy ingredients, the origins of recipes and more with his family and friends.

Chef Kev graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 1998 after starting his career at the Marriott.  He moved on to the, then, four star, four diamond resort, The Renaissance at Pine Isle. Since then, he has worked in many areas of the food industry including catering, hibachi chef, event and wedding planning, Executive Chef of Bear’s Best Atlanta and the Bright Spot at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC).  He continues to serve at the Director of Nutrition Services for NGMC bringing a new level of nutritional excellence to his menus.

As a student of all things food, Chef Kev loves to cook all types of cuisine, but has extensive experience in French Cuisine, Seafood Cookery, Japanese Cuisine, and North American cuisines including French Creole, BBQ, and Latin Cuisine. Ingredients are as important as the recipe in his cooking and he loves to tell the guests about the ingredients and the origin of his dishes, as well as how they can be prepared at home.

Among Chef Kevin Murphree’s professional achievements and certifications are an ACF gold and bronze medal, an article written by the Gainesville Times about his healthy cooking classes at NGMC Gainesville, as well as being Serv Safe Sanitation and Allergen Safety Certified.  Once you have broken Chef Kev’s bread you will be counted amongst his friends.  We are so pleased to have him as a member of our Alegre Farm team and invite you to join us in welcoming him and his delicious dishes to our farm.
